It was a family legend, passed on by word of mouth from generation to
generation, that stood at the beginning of my research into my ancestors. My
grandfather, Josef Ubry, was very proud of his family
name. This characteristic is probably innate to all members of the Ubry(i) clan, as I have not yet met an Ubry(i) who would be lacking this characteristic. As my
grandfather made sure that the legend would not be forgotten, now I am able to publish and comment on it.

In the not so
distant past, a man lived in France, a member of parliament, French peer and
ancestor of the contemporary Ubry(i). However, The Great French
Revolution came about and brushed away the so far stable rules and values and
brought up a question of life and death. Our ancestor chose the first
possibility and thus he was forced to run away from the country to save his
bare livelihood. He desolated his property to start from the beginning

in the world and up to now discovered evidence, we may confidently say:
All the Ubry(i) are most probably members of
one family.
